About Shinran Shonin

Shinran Shonin is widely recognized as the founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism.  He was a revolutionary thinker and teacher for his time (1173-1263), who revealed that the truth of the Shakyamuni Buddha was accessible to everyone, regardless of social status, circumstance or background. Inspired by many teachers and masters of the Pure Land tradition, Shinran Shonin’s teachings urge each and every one of us to take refuge in the Infinite Wisdom and Compassion* and to live this life with awareness and appreciation.
