Mission StatementTo promote and foster the Buddhist Churches of America’s mission and ministerial training mission and goals through the application of Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha teachings. Our PurposeWorking with a vast network of other institutions and affiliates, CBE aims to have a variety of educational programs available to people of all ages with or without any prior knowledge of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism or Buddhism in general. CBE aims to promote continuing education and participation in Jodo Shinshu Buddhist practices and cultural/life enrichment through a variety of interactive workshops, training sessions, public forums, and community events. The Buddhist Churches of AmericaSince then, we have grown to over 70 temples/churches and fellowships across the continent, and we are a part of the more than twelve million Nembutsu followers who make up the Hongwanji community throughout the world. The national headquarters is located in San Francisco. The BCA’s seminary, the Institute of Buddhist Studies, is located in Berkeley and is affiliated with the Graduate Theological Union. The BCA is the sole Buddhist-endorsing agent for the U.S. military chaplaincy and serves as a regional center of the World Fellowship of Buddhists. |
